On Saturday last, the cream of Irish juvenile athletics faced each other in the Irish Schools Track & Field in Tullamore. With 30 athletes from the club having qualified from the Connacht finals, it was the club’s highest participation ever in these finals. These finals are widely considered the highest standard of juvenile athletics in the country and so it was to be on Saturday with many fine performances.

The highlights of the day were the bronze medal for the Pres Athenry Senior Boys 4x100m team (Evan Quirke, Conor Duggan, Cillian Dolan, Cillian Greene), a splendid run in windy conditions by Jamie Fallon (Calasanctius) to take the bronze medal in the Senior Boys 5000m in a time of 15:32.69 and yet another blistering performance by Sineád Treacy (St Raphaels) to take the bronze medal in the Senior Girls 200m in a time of 24.85, having earlier raced to 4th in the 100m in a time of 12.20.
