Jerry Keary had the biggest success of his athletics career to date when he leaped to victory in the high jump at the Tailteann Games which were held in Santry at the weekend. The Tailteann Games is an annual inter-provincial schools event between the top schools athletes in the four quarters of Ireland. Jerry leaped 1.95m to take the title on countback and in the process claim his first international vest for Ireland with selection onto the Irish schools team that will compete in England in mid-July. Jerry’s progress in the last year has been incredible, adding almost 20cm to his PB of 1.81m from last year when he jumped 2 metres at the Connacht Championships recently.

Also in action at the Tailteann Games, Laura Cunningham leaped to a 1.55m PB in the girls high jump event, Leanagh Gilligan did likewise with a 9.53m leap in the triple jump whiel Chloe Casey placed 4th in the shot putt and Dearbhaile Walshe placed 8th in the steeplechase. Also in action in Santry, Damien O’Boyle had a fine run in the Junior Men’s 3000m at the National Senior Track & Field where he claimed the silver in a time of 8:49.24.
