After the horrendous weather we had during the week, our prayers were answered Sunday morning when we were blessed with a perfect spring day in Craughwell for the 5th Annual Craughwell 10mile road race.
Up on 600 athletes took to the starting line of the Craughwell 10 mile road race at 1pm on Sunday 23rd March with representation from over 45 different clubs from all over the country.
Conditions were good as the athletes took to the course which kicked off at 1pm and they headed out the course towards the Rashane Turlough and through the country roads of Craughwell and neighbouring Clarnebridge.

50minutes14seconds later the winner Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrocks AC crossed the finish line at Craughwell National School to take the male honors this year. He finished 2minutes ahead of Emmett Dunleavy of Sligo AC, while Galway City Harriers Matt Bidwell finished in 3rd position in a time of 54.02. Mick Clohisey recently won 1st place in the National Cross Country three weeks ago and was in top form for Sunday’s race.
The women’s race was a much tighter battle with Paula Prendergast from Mayo AC claiming 1st place in a time of 1:04:37, with Athenry AC’s Janeanne Healy claiming 2nd place and her fellow teammate Sinead Foran taking 3rd place.
For many too, it was their first 10mile road run and we have to congratulate each and every one of the participants of the Craughwell 10 on finishing.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community along the route for their co-operation with the road closures and supporting the athletes on the day. We would also like to thank our wonderful volunteers who helped make the day such a success along with Craughwell National School and Craughwell GAA for the use of their facilities for the day.
