Photos from Craughwell 5k Available
Remember folks - the next in the highly successful Galway 5K series is taking place in Loughrea on Tuesday, where I'm sure the Loughrea runners below, Erno and Darragh will be geared up for another good run.
Some of the photos from last Tuesday's highly successful Craughwell AC 5K are in the Gallery Section. Thanks to the Porter girls for doing the photography while our regular photographer, Julie Gallagher took part in the race. What a great series - roll on the Loughrea 5K!
Big turnout at Craughwell 5k
There was a large turnout of almost 240 runners and walkers for the 3rd race in the Galway 5k series which was held Tuesday evening in Craughwell.
Well done to all the participants. Thankfully the weather held fine for the evening and hopefully everyone enjoyed the occasion.
Provisional results have been compiled by James Lundon from Athenry AC:

Galway 5K Series - Craughwell Tuesday 15th May
Hi all - just a reminder that the third in the Galway 5k series of races is on at 8:00 PM. Please arrive at or before 7:40 if you haven't registered. 5K is 3.1 miles, and is a great distance for people for both serious and not-so-serious runners.
The route is the same as last year and the registration is at St Michaels hall which is on yor right as you enter the village from the galway side. There were 200 runners in the first two races and we are expecting a similar sized crowd.
Superb performances in Renmore cross-country
Juvenile athletes from the club had glorious conditions for the running of the Galway Finals of Community Games cross-country at the weekend in Renmore. This is a keenly awaited competition for many athletes as it’s a golden opportunity to qualify for the ‘mythical’ Mosney which many kids dream of – the land of fun and freedom and a small matter of National cross-country finals. In these races, the top 5 or 6 qualify on the Galway team, so if you’re a strong runner but not the strongest in Galway, it’s a great chance to get onto a good Galway team and go to Mosney. It’s a much different story in the summer Community Games where you have to be the best runner in Galway to go forward since only 1 runner is selected in each event.
Claire Ryder leaps to bronze in long jump
Time to journey down to Nenagh again as the first weekend of the National Juvenile Indoors arrived. Craughwell AC had 11 athletes in action over the 2 days:-
- Claire Ryder and Ella Bryan in U12 girls long jump
- Maireád McCan in U13 girls long jump
- Sarah Helebert in U15 girls high jump
- Ashley McDonnell in U15 girls 60m hurdles
- Cathriona Farrell in U16 girls long jump and high jump
- Rachel Finnegan in U16 girls 60m hurdles
- Jack Raftery in U13 boys 60m sprint
- PJ Kelly in U13 boys long jump
- Paul McGill in U14 boys 60m sprint, shot putt and 60m hurdles
- Tomás Keehan in U15 boys 60m sprint and high jump
Update on Fund-Raising
At this stage, most parents and members will have received tickets from the athletic club in regard to this fund-raising drive and a letter outlining the substantial benefits which the club will get from the facility.
If you haven't already received tickets from me or one of the coaches, its either because I still have a very small number of envelopes to hand out or because your kids are also in the soccer club and the soccer club will be giving you tickets. You won't be given tickets by both clubs!
I'm attaching a progress chart which reflects ticket sales and also sales of advertising billboards. If you think you know businesses who'd be interested in a billboard, please ask them - 1 billboard brings in the same as 20 tickets (€1000), so each billboard is a big boost to the fund-raising.
Craughwell AC needs your money and you need a new car!
A major fund-raising draw is being launched by Craughwell Community Sports Group to pay for the new astro-turf pitch and athletics facilities at the rear of Craughwell NS.
Please give it your support!
Craughwell AC is a one-third stakeholder in the Community Sports Group (which has a long-term lease on the facility) and will be heavily involved in the running of and the usage of the astro-turf and the other facilities. These other facilities will include a long jump pit, high jump pit and a walking/jogging path.
Tickets are now available for this draw and available from Michael Tobin (087 6591879 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or from the coordinators of athletics training or circuit training sessions. I will be writing to all parents of children in the club and to senior members to hopefully get their full support for this draw - its only through everyone's support that facilities like this are possible within the community.
Full details of the tickets are below.

Busy Day at Connacht Indoors
Another early morning start was in store for 62 of Craughwell AC’s juvenile athletes as they journeyed to Nenagh for the 2007 Connacht Indoors Track & Field last Saturday, 10th Feb. Events got underway at 10.30am, kicking off with the U12, 14, 16 and 18 relays. There were many highlights on the day for the club – with some very impressive performances across all the age groups and the juvenile club doing very well overall, winning 15 Connacht titles, 9 silver and 13 bronze. The following are just some of the more eventful moments during the day’s competition:-
5k race series announced for May 2007
Dates have been announced for this Summer's 5k race series in Galway. Over 15 members of the club took part in last year's series in Athenry, Tuam, Craughwell and Dangan and all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is hoped to add to these numbers this year in the 5 race series. The club hope to coordinate entries to the series in advance and perhaps also coordinate a meet-and-train session to help those for whom it may be their first race and also to encourage more experienced runners to do it.
The following is the official announcment of the series ...
