And, I wish I was on the N17...
Well my wish came true in the form of the Tuam 8k road race on Sunday 14th of January. After the Christmas season this is just what you need to get a good start to the New year. Thankfully the day was dry and the howling winds had died down, a bit!!
Low-Rising Hills of Athenry
Having set a PB on the Athenry 10k course in 2005, I was looking forward all year to St Stephens Day 2006. It’s the closest race to home and a nice one to prevent overdoing the turkey and wine on Christmas Day/Night. Having spent the autumn however struggling with injuries, I wasn’t looking for a PB this time around – happy to complete it in a reasonable time. I ran the Port Tunnel race 2 weeks previously in just over 37 minutes and had only managed 1 training session since then – so anything in and around the 37 minutes would do. Initially I had planned to make it a family day with us all travelling down to Athenry but a few sick kids put paid to that idea and I travelled alone.

Information on U9 to U12 Track and Field in 2007
Some of you may be aware that some changes were mooted last year regarding the U9-12 track and field competition at National level. Well the changes were recently communicated as follows.
Cathriona Farrell - Galway Bay FM Sports Award
Congratulations to Cathriona Farrell who was awarded the prestigious Galway Bay FM Sports Award for athletics in 2006. Cathriona along with over a dozen other Galway sports stars from various sporting diciplines, will receive her Award at a glittering ceremony later this month.
This is a big honour for Cathriona and the club and is testamount to the hard work that she, her parents and her coaches all put into the sport. Cathriona joins Ann Loughnane as the 2nd member of the club to receive the award.
What are you doing on St. Stephen's Day 2006?
What do you normally do on St. Stephens Day? Feeling a little full after the festivities of the previous day? Feeling a little remorseful at the thought of the extra lbs that the Christmas over-indulgence might have brought with it? Fancy getting some fresh air on St Stephen's Day for about 60 or 70 minutes? Fancy getting it when jogging the Athenry 10k the morning of St Stephen's Day? Read on before tearing up this message.
Juveniles up against it in Athlone
The club’s juvenile athletes and a handful of seniors travelled to Athlone for the first day of the Connacht cross-country finals – the uneven juvenile age groups and novice men.
