Some great track performances by Craughwell athletes

Other reports on the Web site have covered the performances of Craughwell's juvenile athletes in field events on the final day of tne National Juvenile Championships in Cork. There were also some fantastic performances on the track, with several sprinters and middle distance runners in action. Also in action in the U9 multi-events competition were Eddie Madden and Tara McNally.

The club had several fine jumpers in action in both long jump and high jump in Cork IT on the final day of the National Track and Field on July 16th. First in action was Maireád McCann in the U12 girls event and Jack Raftery and PJ Kelly in the U12 boys. Paul McGill Obliterates the National Shot Putt Record

On the final day of the National Juvenile Track and Field in Cork IT on 16 July, several throwers from the club were in action, foremost of whom been Paul McGill.    Competition got underway promptly with the U11 ball throw and U12 long jumps. Cathriona Farrell selected for Irish team

There was super news for Cathriona Farrell and the club at the weekend when we heard of her selection by the AAI for the Irish International U16 team to contest the Celtic International track and field in Waterford on 12th August. The Celtic Internaional is an annual event which involves top athletes from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales competing for their countries in the U16 and U18 age groups. Congratulations to Ann Loughnane who has been selected for the ESB Athletes Support Program on which details was announced today by Athletics Ireland and the ESB. Check out the announcement at the Athletics Ireland Web site – http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/?p=338#more-338. Well done also to Paul Hession from Athenry AC who was selected for the same program. Its a great achievement for 2 Galway athletes to be selected as part of this elite group of 12 athletes from all over Ireland.

Cathriona Farrell Sets New National Record

Many of the recent reports posted on the club’s juvenile news lead with “the club enjoyed its best ever day at …”. This line was never more appropriate than last weekend at the National Juvenile Track & Field Championships for U14-U19 age groups in Tullamore where 5 athletes made the winners podium, claiming 8 medals between them – with the highlight being Cathriona Farrell's new record in the high jump.
