Top Athletics Ireland Award for Cathriona Farrell

The honours keep pouring in for Craughwell AC's top high jumper Cathriona Farrell. Cathriona was honoured at the weekend to receive the Athletics Ireland "Eamon Gilbert Award" for being the country's best juvenile high jumper in 2007. Cathriona's consistent jumping throughout the year earned her this award, with a PB of 1.72m early in the year, followed up by several top-notch performances during the year and in particular her achievement in winning the English AAA U17 High Jump in August…

Club records come tumbling down in Nenagh

The club had a fantastic day out in Nenagh last weekend. An earlier article has already detailed the successes in the relays but there were even bigger performances in the individual events with several athletes taking multiple medals and several breaking club records. In record breaking form, Paul McGill set a new PB and club record in the U15 boys shot putt, heaving the shot a massive 13.46m to win the Connacht title easily. Kelly O’Donoghue won the club’s only…

Martin 2nd M40 in Adare

Martin 2nd M40 in Adare

Well done to Martin Corcoran who put in a strong run to come home as 2nd over 40 in the Adare 10K last weekend.  Another excellent performance that caught my eye was that of Ian Egan who just pipped Martin – this is by far the fastest 10K I can remember Ian running for over two years and shows a great return to form for him.  Check out the West Limerick AC site for full results and pictures: http://www.westlimerickac.com/index.html  …

Update on summer juvenile track and field

I've received a copy of the AAI juvenile competition booklet in the post today. Its also online now at http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/4th%20Juvenile%20Booklet%20%282%29last.pdf. (note there are errors in above doc, e.g. it says u13-19 relays on 13 July in some places and 26 July in others. AAI HQ told me 26 July is the correct date and that they are in process of correcting the web version of the booklet). Unfortunately there is a long trip up to Antrim for some age groups!…

Big Performance from Maeve Curley in Isle of Man

Big Performance from Maeve Curley in Isle of Man

Maeve Curley travelled to the Isle of Man at the weekend to compete in the annual Manx Harriers Race Walking Championships. Maeve was competing in the U17 Women 3km walk. Putting in a fantastic performance, Maeve finished just 1 second behind one of her main rivals in Ireland, Fiona Dennehy from Kilkenny. Fiona won the English AAA Championships last year and for Maeve to finish so close to her was a huge performance, setting a new PB in the process…
