{rsg2_display: 18, superclean} In splendid sunshine we had the first day of the Galway senior track and Field last Thursday.  We had a decent turn-out from the club with considerable sucess – winning womens & mens Long Jump, womens & mens 100m and the Medley relay.  The full results can be found here: http://www.athenryac.com/files/2008%20Galway%20Senior%20T&F%20Results%20Day%201.xls http://www.athenryac.com/files/2008%20Galway%20Senior%20T&F%20Results%20Day%201.pdf I had never really tried the track before and I found to be thoroughly enjoyable.  Day 2 is on Thursday 3rd July so hopefully we…

Marks midsummers night dream

Marks midsummers night dream

Mark Davis came first in the Annaghdown 10k race last night and thus becomes a target for the taxman. No official results yet but reportedly 33:50. A great performance and well deserved after all his hard training. Not sure what his limits are but the PB's keep tumbling… too late for Beijing but London 2012?? Fantastic running Mark.

U9-12 National Relays Bring out the Emotions

U9-12 National Relays Bring out the Emotions

Craughwell had the unique distinction of having had a team qualify in each age group from Connacht for the National finals – and we repeated this unique achievement in the heats in Tullamore by having each team qualify for the final. The relays generally provide the most tense competition of the day for both athletes and parents alike – with fingers crossed that all goes well and no mistakes and possibly a medal chance for some teams. And as it…

Craughwell Youngsters Battle for National Honours in Tullamore

Despite a brief skirmish with the rain during the morning in Tullamore, the large number of families from Craughwell and its surrounds enjoyed a mostly sunny day in Tullamore for the National finals of the U9-12 track and field. In fact, at times one could be forgiven for thinking it was the local community games such was the large number of local families in attendance.  Craughwell had a huge number of qualifiers for these championships and all performed incredibly well….

Galway cross-country athletes bid Mosney farewell

Galway cross-country athletes bid Mosney farewell

Mosney provided the venue for the National Community Games cross-country finals for the last time on the last weekend of May. This didn’t dampen the spirits of the Galway camp as they tackled the races, the disco, the fun fair, the slot machines and the Mosney food with their usual gusto.   On Saturday morning, the cross country got underway with the U12 girls in action first. The Galway team were twins Michelle and Veronica Burke (Ballinasloe), Alanna Lally (Abbey)…
