Cross-country in Tramore

Cross-country in Tramore

The long road to Tramore racecourse, Co. Waterford beckoned at 7am last Sunday morning as a small crew from Craughwell AC hit the road for the first day of the National Cross Country Championships. Some folks had travelled the day before to the popular holiday venue, enjoying the sunny south-east no doubt. The trip down was remarkably quick – about 3 hours if you take out a ‘sick-stop’ and a 20 minute break.   Craughwell had 3 juvenile teams in…

Loughrea 5-miler Video

Loughrea 5-miler Video

The big-spenders over at Loughrea have published another professionally-produced video of their successful 5-mile race.  This also includes the large Juvenille race which was won in such dominant form by Craughwell AC's Linda Porter and Paul Joyce. I think this is a really interesting video as it gives a rare opportunity to look at the front runners of a really high quality local race.  The interesting thing for me about it is that they all have such different styles –…

Club’s Athletes Feature Prominently in Cumann na mBunscoil cross country

The last primary school cross country of the season took place in Renmore today with the annual Cumann na mBunscoil cross-country. The numbers were significantly higher than in the same event last year, a similar trend to the AAI primary schools cross country in September – a very good trend for the sport!  Athletes from the club dominated the races, taking 3 of the four team titles on offer and a number of the individual trophies. The strongest race from…

Uneven age groups battle in Boyle

Uneven age groups battle in Boyle

Lough Key Forest Park in Boyle was the venue for the 2nd day of the Connacht cross-country championships. As our athletes took to the road from Craughwell, Oranmore, Ardrahan, etc the weather seemed to get progressively worse as hail stones pelted down to some accompaniment blasts of thunder. Not ideal psychological preparation for the races! Luckily the bad weather had made its mark on Forest Park earlier in the day and other than one heavy shower before the races started,…
