Participation Goes Through the Roof!

Participation Goes Through the Roof!

Pop down to Craughwell astro-turf any Tuesday or Thursday to witness the remarkable numbers participating in athletics training sessions. The place is thronged at 6.30pm on Tuesdays with over 60 children from 4th class upwards in primary school going through their paces for their various athletic events and they will soon be joined by the younger age groups in preparation for the outdoor track and field.   Pop up to the hall in Craughwell at the same time and a…

Ras Na hEireann Video

Ras Na hEireann Video

For anyone that enjoyed the amazing Armagh 5k video this is another one filmed by the same crew of the same awesome runners doing cross country in this prestigous race last weekend: A good warm-up for the interclubs next week! Great to see the Keith Kelly running so well – he was an awesome cross country runner – still the only Irish man to win the NCAA XC, but had a horrible time with injury. Was it just me or…

Armagh 5k – Ireland’s SERIOUS road race

Armagh 5k – Ireland’s SERIOUS road race

This is an excellent video of this month’s Armagh 5k – one of the top road races in the world in terms of quality. Great runner Emile Zatopec once said “it’s at the borders of pain and suffering that men are seperated from boys”. I think you can really see that when you look at these guys – the effort they are putting out has to be really hurting them but they are so fit that they can handle it….

The roads are just packed

The roads are just packed

The road race scene around Galway has never been so bouyant as this year (at least in my memory). Possibly a side-effect of these recessionary times – most people can afford a pair of runners, and charities are needing more help than ever with fund-raising. Here are just a few upcoming local races for your calendar that are worth mentioning: Sunday 22nd Feb: Fit4Life 5k on in Craughwell at 1:00PM. Saturday 28nd Feb: Kilconieron 8k (new race!) Sunday 1st March:…

Training video: Fagan does 400’s

Training video: Fagan does 400’s

Here’s another training video featuring Irish Athlete Martin Fagan training with his elite buddies. In this one himself and the “guys” are running 400’s at about 5k to 1/2 marathon pace (68 seconds for those freaks). It’s at altitude in an indoor track. Every 4th one is done hard – varying from 60 secs to 54 seconds. As usual the heavily tattooed Fagan is doing much of the front running. I think they do about 16-17 reps in all. Click…

Scotland Revisited / Scottish Indoors 2009

Scotland Revisited / Scottish Indoors 2009

A small band of Craughwell athletes journeyed to Glasgow for the Scottish Juvenile Indoors Track & Field Championships held on 14/15 February in the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow . The venue was just as impressive as it was in 2008 when the club ventured there for the first time. When you see such a facility and hear talk that Scottish Athletics are going to tear it down because it is too old, it puts our nation to shame particularly with…
