Please review the list below and get in touch if there is a problem. I really hope I haven't missed anyone. There will be no on the night entries. Note the start time – this indicates the time you will be starting at! Make sure you know what time group you are in – I'll do my best to organise you but it will be your responsibility to make sure you start off at the right time. Your numbers will…
It was another day to remember for Craughwell AC athletes at Athlone IT where the U12-15 Connacht Championships took place last Saturday. For many of these athletes, this was their first time competing in Athlone and the hard Mondo surface was a different experience for them. Luckily the downpours that beset Craughwell on Saturday stayed away from Athlone until the athletics were finished.
The Olympic Council of Ireland announced the team yesterday which will contest the European Youth Olympics in Finland in the 2nd last week of July. And amidst the team of 14 athletes was Craughwell's own Cathriona Farrell. This is a fantastic achievement for Cathriona and the highlight of her career to date. Cathriona joined the club at the age of 7 and took part in all of the athletic disciplines including sprints, cross-country and long jump. It was only when the club…

Provisional program for this Saturday is attached here. Please note that its only a provisional order and the actual order can and will vary on the day. Note also that the hammer event starts at 10am and all other events at 11.30am. If trying to estimate times of events, bear in mind that there likely be two long jump pits operating at the same time, with the boys at one and the girls at the other.
The track and field events are coming hot and heavy these days between Community Games, schools track and field and club track and field. Tuesday was the turn of primary schools with the highly successful Galway City Sports which was held in Dangan. The track in Dangan was thronged with children and teachers as the organisers got the events underway around 9.45am. Well done to the coordinators and in particular to Muiriosa on a very successful event.
Craughwell AC’s youngest athletes led the way at the weekend in the Connacht track and field championships in Athlone IT where 20 teams from the club qualified for the National finals, with two other Galway clubs also to the fore – GCH with 14 teams and Athenry with 13 teams. These figures speak volumes for the strength of underage athletics within Co. Galway. Unfortunately after a week of strong sunshine, last Saturday resembled a summer’s day in Siberia more…
A huge number of athletes from the club represented their areas in the Galway Community Games finals last weekend in Ballinderrin, with some marvellous performances and plenty of success. Our athletes weren’t the only ones in top form, with Mr Sun finally opening its season with a strong weekend performance and a season’s best!
Looking back now i feel i had not prepared sufficiently for the marathon, felt i was carrying probably up to a stone too much body weight, not enough long runs (15 milers) under the belt or even tempo runs but to be honest i dont think any of these factors would have changed or helped me in what i faced in Cork on June 1st 2009.
