Mary Loughnane is Handicap Champion 2009

Sorry about the delay in getting these results up – I was away from the old computer for the last few days.  {rsg2_display: 26, superclean} In total 37 athletes turned up on another miraculously fine evening.  Reacting well to the pressure of the final night, the running form was sensational on the night with an incredible 21setting PB's (considering for 5 people this was the first race that means 2 out of every 3 runners set a pb – amazing). …

Craughwell AC: Important information for parents

Craughwell AC: Important information for parents

To parents….   Sorry about the title, it was just to attract your attention. The athletic club is going from strength to strength every year with more and more children and teenagers joining and sticking at the sport. The most important ingredient in keeping this going is you (the parents) getting involved in helping at coaching sessions.

Running and old age

Running and old age

We all enjoy running, racing, competing and the social outlet that the sport provides but at the back of our minds there's a nagging doubt.  Is this going to leave me in a state when I'm old?  How many couch potatoes have told you that you will be in a wheelchair by the time you're 50 if you keep going the way you are?  That your knees will be wrecked?  Perhaps feeding that doubt is the fact that we often…

Hard-fought 4th Place for Maria McNamara in Multi-Events

Maria McNamara and Rachel Finnegan were the club's sole representatives in the National Combined Events Championships at the weekend in Tullamore. Both athletes performed exceptionally well, with each claiming three PBs. Maria recorded a PB of 15.1 in the 80m hurdles, which was her weakest of the 5 events and followed this up with a good long jump of 4.42m to place 5th in that event. In the shot putt, she threw a new PB of 7.48m which is also a…

Craughwell AC's U13 boys 4x100m team raced to a new club record (for U13s) and National title a week ago in Tullamore when winning the U13 boys relay in a time of 54.64 to add to their indoor title from earlier this year. Their time of 54.64 overtook the U13 boys team of 2007 as the club record for this age group – that year the team of Peter Treacy, PJ…

the future looks bright – European Youth Olympics

the future looks bright – European Youth Olympics

Just had to post a quick note on the european youth olympics.  I never really took notice of the event before but the young stars representing Ireland in this event are really doing the country proud all over the place. Who can forget watching Sonia O Sullivan make her brave charge for the line in Sydney 2000 until she was passed by the incredible Romanian Gabriela Zsabo on the home straight?  Well a couple of weeks ago young Ciara Magaeen…

In wet conditions Cathriona pulled out a big jump of 1.70 to make the finals.  Though this is short of her PB it was a massive jump in such pressurised circumstances.  Fantastic news and an awesome achievement for her.  The final is on tomorrow at 8:30AM and regardless of what happens there, it has been a fantastic competition for her so no pressure!!  The results of todays competition are available here. Well done Cathriona!
