Galeforce West 2009

Galeforce West, on Saturday August 22nd 2009, was for Maura Egan and myself, an amazing experience.  When you have such an amazing experience like this, it is difficult to articulate it in words, below is my attempt. What is Galeforce West?  Galeforce West is the biggest adventure race of its kind in the world. The race is in six stages, all done carrying mandatory kit which included full body cover, first aid kit, cycle repair kit, survival bag or blanket, whistle,…

Start your Autograph collection in Loughrea on Sunday!

Olive Homecoming – Sunday 1:00PMLocal hero (or is it heroine?) Olive Loughnane will be coming home to Loughrea on Sunday at 1:00 PM.  Olive was our top performer in the World Championships in Berlin with a stunning Silver in an incredibly gritty performance.  With this she joined an elite group of 4 who have come home from the world athletics championships with "metal" around their neck. A few of us from the club were over in Berlin for the championships…

Mike’s Berlin Blog

This is a brief or maybe not so brief account of a truely fantastic trip to the Athletics World Championships in Berlin last week. We spent 2 days at the championships – Wednesday and Thursday. It was a fantastic experience and I’d highly recommend a trip to a major championship to any of our senior and juvenile athletes interested in the sport. This level of competition is special and the atmosphere is electric. The European Championships are on…

Silver for Olive in Berlin!

Incredible news again from Loughrea's Olive Loughnane who sensationally broke away from the Chinese athlete to take a remarkable Silver in Berlin with a season's best performance of 1:28:58.  Olive was Ireland's best performer in Beijing and this is a super high point of her career.  She is a class act.  Congratulations to her, to her family (including her Craughwell AC sister Anne) and also to Loughrea AC from all in Craughwell.  I know TJ and co are out in…

Success in Claregalway for Craughwell

Success in Claregalway for Craughwell

On a perfect evening for running there was more success for Craughwell.  I wasn't there and haven't the exact results yet but Martin and Johnny were in the individual prizes and also the team received a prize for I believe second place close behind a strong GCH team.  Well done all. Martin, Johnny, Paddy and Tom take a team prize Thanks to Adrian Fitzmaurice of Athenry who thoughtfully sent me the pictures. Results attached here.

Craughwell paint the streets green

Craughwell paint the streets green

In sublime conditions we had an amazing turnout of 49 Craughwell athletes taking part in Galway's premier road race.  Well done to each and every one of you that took part.  PB's about all over the field as the wind at your backs on the prom made the traditionally tricky home straight a dream. Full results are here.  Little needs to be said about the winner of the race here as it's been covered elsewhere – it was an…
