X-Country-Factor: John and Edward style

X-Country-Factor: John and Edward style

I don't know about your house but in my place Saturday and Sunday nights the women rule and TV is totally out of bounds meaning I'm forced to sit through one warbling act after another.  John and Edward seem to have taken over the mantle of Irish music from Dustin the Turkey and are good fun to watch in a cringe-like way though.  Here is a picture of them back home running hard for their club, DSD: Maybe I'm biased…

Slipin n Slidin n Sligo

One of the parents enjoying the cross country! Squelsh, plop, squoosh, yuck, splash, plop, mush, ooze, sink, groan, splash, drag, stuck, grimace …. head down into the galeforce wind and rain …. struggling for breath … just put one foot in front of the other … you'll get there … we finally make it from the bus as far as the dressing rooms in Hazelwood Sligo for the Connacht finals of the primary school cross country. What a day…

Agony and joy on streets of Dublin

Agony and joy on streets of Dublin

The weather was ideal, but there is never anything easy about a marathon..  I'll leave the full report to Tony, Peter or one of the others that did the event but here are a few pictures I dug up of our athletes in action: The Sub-3 Amigos Craughwell were led home on the day in an incredible run by Justin Niland of 2:57:06.  This was a simply amazing debut marathon run given the amount of training that Justin has been doing…

All eyes on Dublin!

All eyes on Dublin!

You can run races week in and week out, but racing a marathon is really something special – I'd say you're likely to remember each one for the rest of your lives.  The very best of luck to all the Craughwell AC athletes that are running the marathon on Monday morning.  The weather outside is brutal today, but don't be scared – I checked all the weather and surfing websites and Monday is going to have the most ideal conditions…

Craughwell 10 – should we move it?

Hey folks – as you probably know we have finally decided to hold "proper" club race for next year.  The distance will be a 10-miler – just for a change.  The race calendar is pretty packed but we thought we had found a suitable date.  We had been planning on 21st of March  – i.e. the Sunday after Paddy's day.  However.. there's a slight problem – Ballycotton 10 which is one of the best races in the country has just…

Royal Performances from Craughwell’s Juveniles at the Palace Grounds

Royal Performances from Craughwell’s Juveniles at the Palace Grounds

Last Sunday, the juvenile cross country club scene swung into action in Tuam’s Palace Grounds where Craughwell AC had large numbers taking part.  First on the agenda, the U10 girls 500m followed by the boys 500m. For many of the Craughwell AC competitors, this was their first ever cross country race and they all performed superbly to complete the challenge without stopping and for some, to finish in the medals. There are no team placings in the U10 races, which…
