A New Decade Dawns for Craughwell AC

A New Decade Dawns for Craughwell AC

It’s been a remarkable decade for Craughwell AC’s juveniles since the start of the millennium. Participation levels have rocketed, local facilities have gone from a wet muddy pitch and a leaky hall to the finest astroturf in East Galway and a modern community centre, our coaching personnel has gone from a handful to a bus-full and our success rate has gone from an occasional Connacht medal to a dozen National medals each year and international performances to be proud of….

Walk don’t run – the Olive Loughnane Story

Noticed this on boards.ie: "Documentary telling the remarkable story of how a girl from the Carrabane National School in Galway grew up to become a three-time Olympian, and winner of the silver medal in the 20k Walk at the 2009 World Athletic Championships in Berlin" (entertainment.ie)"  On at 8:30 tonight on RTE 2.  Definitely looks worth tuning in to.

Race Cancellations and Postponements!

Race Cancellations and Postponements!

When I woke up this morning and looked out the window I thought there was a thaw but then got the dreaded text from Athenry AC.. Cancelled! Or Postponed at least.  When I went outside I could see why – it was impossible to walk with the black ice never mind run. Despite the ongoing thaw all day Mayo AC have wisely decided for the same thing and cancelled Wesport 5k which was set for tomorrow. Keep tuned to the…

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to everyone! It feels a bit like the North Pole in Craughwell at the moment. Santa will feel very much at home tonight as he races around Craughwell. The U10 to U14 age groups (whoever's around!) will be going down to Nenagh on Tuesday 29th for a bit of a party and a training session. For some, this will be their first time on the…

Craughwell AC 2010 Calendar and Local Directory

In order to ensure that each house in Craughwell and its surrounds are offered a calendar to buy, we will be asking children/parents to help with…

Irish Dancers Make Great Athletes!

Irish Dancers Make Great Athletes!

Check out the following article about World 1500m bronze medallist Shannon Rowbury:- http://www.spikesmag.com/features/irishdancingisthesecretbehindmytracksuccess.aspx “When I was in kindergarten I tripped over a basketball and fractured my tibia. My grandmother, who is Irish, said I should do Irish dancing to help strengthen my leg. I feel that was really huge in developing me as an athlete. It helped me with my fast-twitch development and hip strength. " I'm delighted to see such a statement from a World medalist as I've often…
