Good Performances at Juvenile Multi-events

Good Performances at Juvenile Multi-events

The club had a number of athletes in action at the National finals of the juvenile multi-events in Nenagh on Saturday. Maria McNamara led the way in the U16 girls event with a points total of 2364 which included new PBs in the hurdles and in the 800m. Maria's scores were 60m hurdles 10.2, long jump 4.31m, shot putt 6.36m, high jump 1.41m and 800m 2.43.4. That was good enough for a 5th place finish overall, not far at all…

Craughwell Entry Limit Reached!

Craughwell Entry Limit Reached!

Well I for one didn't expect this on its first year, but the Craughwell 10 has sold out, having reached its target of 500 entries.  Almost as if it were planned by race director Peter "lucky" O'Sullivan we managed to sell out on the day of the race launch bash which was also a great success. To all those that have managed to get their entries in – we're really loking forward to seeing you on the day.   To those…

William’s and Diarmuid’s success in the high jump has already been covered by Tony so I will just outline the performances from our juveniles in some more detail here. Highlight of the weekend was Rachel Finnegan’s victory…

Elite Athletes Honoured at Galway Sports Star Awards

Elite Athletes Honoured at Galway Sports Star Awards

Last Saturday night, two of Galway’s leading sports women received the most prestigious sports award west of the Shannon when they were honoured at the Connacht Tribune Sports Stars Awards for 2009.   The achievements of both ladies are well documented on this website and elsewhere. But let’s recap for a minute. For Olive Loughnane from our neighbouring club Loughrea AC, 2009 was a fantastic year – becoming only the 4th ever senior athlete from Ireland to win a…

Better late than never in Athenry 09

Better late than never in Athenry 09

Gary just can't wait to get his slice of Barm Brack Athenry AC put on another exceptional display of race organisation yesterday.  Despite two unavoidable reschedules they still got over 500 runners to line up.  This race has something for everyone – top quality, friendly atmosphere, safety and I am still trying to clear the fuzzy feeling from my teeth after all the buns, biscuits and cakes I demolished after the event!  I woke up thirsty this morning!  The provisional results are on the athenry…
