We all knew already that athletes were away smarter than everyone else … but the Irish Independent confirmed it today … http://www.independent.ie/health/diet-fitness/running-can-help-boost-brain-power-2021454.html. "The study followed two groups of mice, one of which had unlimited access to a running wheel throughout, whey they clocked up an average of 24km a day, while the other mice formed a control group. During the brief training sessions, they were placed in front of a computer screen which displayed two identical squares side by side….

Less than 200 entries remain for Craughwell 10

Having reached 300 a delighted Peter decided to eat out to celebrate Just a warning.. it's nearly time to get off the fence on this one.  The entries for the Craughwell 10 have reached 300.  We have a hard limit of 500 on the number of entrants – mainly because we don't want to start out too big and have a chance of a mess-up.  The gifts, etc have already been ordered for this number so we don't really have…

Tuam AC knocked our socks off in 2010

Peter was rightly thrilled after leading Craughwell to team victory The Tuam AC 8k has become a firm favourite of runners from all around Galway and Mayo and this year it continued to grow.  They seemed to have a record attendance – possibly helped by a rare spell of inactivity enforced after the icy spell.  Read on for more on this great race.

Strong Opening to Indoor Season for Craughwell’s Junior Athletes

Strong Opening to Indoor Season for Craughwell’s Junior Athletes

With the cancellation of the Galway indoors recently, the first opportunity of indoor competition for several of our older athletes came yesterday with the National Junior Indoor Track & Field Championships. Even though it’s an U20 competition, athletes from U17 upwards can participate. The club had its biggest ever participation in this event with 9 athletes taking part – reflecting the progress the club is making in helping athletes develop into hopefully their adult years.

Craughwell 10: More than half full.. or less than half empty?

Craughwell 10: More than half full.. or less than half empty?

Is it better to be an optimist or a pessimist?  I think pessimists are happpier in the end since they expect the worst and so don't get disappointed. Due to the flyers and posters going up around the place and also the new year effect, the stream of entries is really picking up.  We are getting about 10 a day or more.  At current count there are 58 days and roughly 240 places remaining for the race so why not avoid…
