Super Performances in South Connacht Schools T&F

Super Performances in South Connacht Schools T&F

Another busy busy day of track and field was held last Wednesday at the South Connacht Schools track and field in Dangan. As often stated, the secondary schools track & field is probably the highest standard of juvenile track and field competition as it attracts athletes from all sports. The club’s performance in this event is going from strength to strength every year and this year continued the trend – particularly in long jump, high jump and middle distance. Some…

Double-Gold for Craughwell in National 10k

Double-Gold for Craughwell in National 10k

Officially confirmation came today that the Craughwell team of Gerry Ryan, Mark Davis, Peter O'Sullivan, Martin Corcoran and Tony Fitzpatrick won the AAI M35 Gold in the national 10k in a field of 11,000 runners.  Remarkably the same team would have taken at least Bronze in the overall competition had we entered all our athletes as such.  Okay I know this should be an unbiased report but I have to say I'm absolutely chuffed! Gerry Ryan also was confirmed as winner of the…

Another Record and National Title for Cathriona

Another Record and National Title for Cathriona

The records continue to fall for Cathriona Farrell, who was in action at the Irish Universities Track & Field in Santry at the weekend. Joining the competition at 1.65m and jumping superbly with first time clearances over 1.65, 1.70 and 1.75m, Cathriona claimed victory with her 1.75 jump to smash her college's (DCU) old record of 1.70m. Cathriona then had 3 strong attempts at 1.80m, coming close on her final attempt but fractionally too close to the bar at takeoff….

Summer holiday home exchange

National 10k 2010 Phoenix Park

National 10k 2010 Phoenix Park

This was the first year that the national 10k was incorporated into the BUPA run and there were mixed feelings about it from the runners I spoke to.  Some runners don't like the idea of all the national championships moving up to dublin and dealing with crowds, etc, while others like the sense of occasion around the event.  I have to confess that I enjoyed the mixing of the two events and think it's a positive thing for the sport….
