Our near neighbours Athenry AC are in the shortlist for the AAI club of the year award the winner of which will be announced tomorrow night.  The very best of luck to them in this, the award would be deserved.  Obviously being from Craughwell there's little more enjoyable than beating our big-town neighbors in team competitions 🙂  However putting aside any friendly local rivalries, there's really no doubt that members of Athenry AC have helped transform Senior running in Galway…

All monies raised are in aid of the IHPCT Lourdes Fund 2011. The IHPCT travel to Lourdes every year with children with special needs and over €2900 was raised at last years race. Peter O'Sullivan and Gerry Ryan will be wearing the precious irish kit this weekend as they represent Ireland against the best of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the Home Countries Cross Country in Santry on Saturday. Peter qualified as an M35 and Gerry got through as the leading M45.  Both guys should do well and there's an excellent chance that one of them will come back with some silverware.  They couldn't come into this from more different backgrounds….

The cold and blustery conditions didn't deter a large Craughwell contingent from the annual trip to Hollymount Co.Mayo yesterday for one of the highlights events of the Mayo Leage.  Many green and white singlets were in evidence in both the Juvenille race and the Senior races of this high-profile and historic event.   Craughwell's Gerry Ryan was the first Galwayman home, in 3rd place on this occasion behind in-form winner Sean Connolly of Tallaght AC and Brian Maher of KCH, and ahead of Sligo…
