Grainne McDaid Leads the Way At National Cross Country Finals

Grainne McDaid Leads the Way At National Cross Country Finals

The postponed Uneven ages cross country championships finally took place today in Tullamore. After yesterday's deluge, one would expect a terribly mucky course but amazingly the course in Tullamore was in perfect condition. Its an exceptional course and with plenty of parking at the nearby Tullamore Harriers track, its a real pity than more of the National cross country cannot take place at central venues such as this. Today was Grainne McDaid's day with an exceptional 14th place finish in…

High Jump Hat-trick for Cathriona!

High Jump Hat-trick for Cathriona!

Cathriona Farrell completed a hat-trick of National Junior Indoor titles in the high jump at Nenagh yesterday when competing in the National Junior Indoor Track & Field Championships for the last time. Having won the title in 2009 and 2010, Cathriona was again in superb form to claim the title with a 1.70m jump. Joining the competition at 1.55m, a slight glitch saw the bar tipped off by her heels on her first jump but Cathriona made no mistakes after…

Circuits back on Monday 17th at 8:30

Time to get back to “proper” training again! I and most people I talk to are feeling very unfit after this Christmas following the desperate weather. Come at 8:15 to get the registrations stuff done and we’ll try to start on time. Reg forms are on the link on the left or here as well. The video below has some pretty interesting tidbits on circuit-style core training for runners,

Craughwell off to a flyer in Athenry

Craughwell off to a flyer in Athenry

On a perfect day, Craughwell took advantage of a reduced field to do really well in Athenry 2010.  I started running about 7 years ago when the sport was in the doldrums around the west.  At that time, Galway had some excellent runners in Paul McNamara, Gary Thornton, Michael O'Connor and Gerry Ryan, but the sport was much smaller than it is now.  However it' seems to me that despite the huge running boom, it's still those 4 that are…

2010 – a vintage year!

2010 – a vintage year!

Another year gone and another year of huge progress for Craughwell AC on both juvenile and senior fronts! The senior scene saw the club field a senior men’s team in the National League for the first time ever while 2 of our cross country runners Peter O’Sullivan and Gerry Ryan brought honour to themselves and the club when selected for the Irish Masters cross country teams that contested the international against England, Scotland and Wales, both athletes helping Ireland…
