Craughwell 10 Make and Do

Craughwell 10 Make and Do

It's all over bar the pictures and menories, and perhaps the few pounds you gained in the post-race food binge.  Oh and of course you have your medal.  The medals this year were smaller than last (unplanned, long story!), but really well made. I was initially a little disappointed with them – but it turns out they are the most useful medal I've ever had.  If you can bring yourself to cut off the Ribbon, they make the most amazing…

Maeve Curley Achieves European Junior Standard!!

Maeve Curley Achieves European Junior Standard!!

News has just come through of Maeve Curley’s fantastic performance at the European Athletics Race Walking Meeting in Dudince in the Slovak Republic at the weekend. Maeve has been working very hard to target the qualification standard for the European Junior Track & Field Championships this summer. The standard is 51 minutes and Maeve recorded a big personal best to better the standard by 5 seconds when racing to a 50:55 and take 4th place amongst a high quality field….

Fine Performances at Galway Community Games Cross Country

Fine Performances at Galway Community Games Cross Country

The Galway Community Games cross country took place at the weekend where over 20 athletes from the club took part representing a wide range of parishes including Craughwell, Ardrahan, Athenry, Carabane, Clarinbridge, Oranmore and Loughrea. They did themselves, their areas and the club proud with 4 of the 6 titles on the day going to members of the club.

Congratulations! And the winners are…!

Congratulations! And the winners are…!

After a misty start, the weather was perfect and the reversal of the route didn't seem to have an adverse affect on the times, which were broadly speaking faster than last year. Congratulations to everyone who ran and helped out – especially to the commitee of Peter (race director), Tony (club chairman), Patrick, Val and Mark.   Last year I spent the time cooped up in an office and there were only a few (admittedly nice) buns left by the time…

Star Performances from Aisling Keady-Cummins at National Juvenile Indoors

Star Performances from Aisling Keady-Cummins at National Juvenile Indoors

Aisling Keady-Cummins made it a memorable day in Magherafelt today when taking double medals at the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in U13 long jump and high jump. The day started with the long jump and while Aisling had performed very well in the Connacht indoors to take the silver medal with a leap of 3.82m (just shy of her 3.87m in the Galway indoors), no one was to expect her phenomenal performance today when leaping 6 jumps close to or…

All set for Craughwell 10 2011

All set for Craughwell 10 2011

Training's done, just a note as a reminder on tomorrow's schedule.  The weather is meant to dry up by start time – and that counts as a good day in ireland!!  Peter's arrangements note can be viewed below.  A big thanks in advance to the marshals and other helpers freely giving their time to support the local athletic club, and best of luck to the competitors – really looking forward to seeing you all.

Historic Achievement for Calasanctius Oranmore!

Historic Achievement for Calasanctius Oranmore!

The club had possibly its largest number of athletes ever take part in the Irish Schools Cross Country finals in Dublin last weekend. The club is making huge strides in encouraging its athletes to continue the sport into secondary school and beyond and it was great to see many of our athletes represent their schools last Saturday. The highlight of the day was Calasantius Oranmore's outstanding performance in the Junior Boys 3500m. This was the first time for a number of…

Well done clarinbridge

Well done clarinbridge

Well done to Clarinbridge on one of the finest displays of hurling seen for a long time in the all-ireland club hurling championships today. Worthy champions and a sublime advert for playing the game cleanly and skillfully. What has this to do with athletics or the Craughwell 10? Well the route of the Craughwell 10 goes deep into Clarinbridge territory and passes the houses of some of the players. It might be worth treading lightly as there may be some…
