Galway’s first Olympic athlete has passed away aged 90 in the US. Cummin Clancy represented Ireland in the discus in the 1948 Olympics. Its probably not well known amongst current generations of athletes so I thought I’d post some details here. He was honoured at the Galway Sports Star Awards in 2009. Good Luck Olive – always a class act Driving into work this morning, I heard the news that arguably the greatest ever Galway Athlete is retiring today. Our U23 and U20 athletes made the short trip to the Athlone International Arena on Sunday for the National U23/U20 Championships. With U17, 18 and 19 athletes allowed to step up to the U20s, the club has its strongest ever contingent of athletes in action.
