Club records tumble in National League Round 1

The weather was four seasons in a day as Craughwell put on some fine performances in Round 1 of the National League in Tullamore on Sunday.  It started out a scorcher but went all “November” on us in the middle before brightening up somewhat near the end. The change in conditions definitely affected some of the track times, but as has become the norm recently with our rapidly improving set of track specialists, several club senior records were still set….

Jamie Breaks Club’s Outdoor 1500m Record

Jamie Breaks Club’s Outdoor 1500m Record

Well done to Jamie Fallon-Spellman who knocked a fraction off the club record for 1500m at the Irish Milers meet in Greystones today. Jamie’s time of 4.10.16 was a PB by a massive 9 seconds and beat the old record of 4.10.69 set by Peadar Harvey in the National League last summer. Full results of the meet are at http://irishmilersclub.com/perch/resources/imc-greystones-results-2013.pdf I have still to post a more detailed update on the recent Galway track & field, but a few records went…

European Gold for Gerry Ryan

European Gold for Gerry Ryan

Fantastic news just in. Gerry ran exceptionally well over a tough course in the Czech republic to beat the best in Europe over 10k, winning his m45 category. Gerry, who turns 50 this year not only beat all the m45s, but also beat all the m40s and all but one of the m35s in the strong field to finish second overall.  Incredible!  Gerry being the fierce competitor that he is almost won the whole thing, finishing only about 12 seconds…

Gerry versus Europe in the Czech Republic

Gerry versus Europe in the Czech Republic

Well done to everyone that took part in last nights 5k – brilliant stuff all round.  The next big event for the club happens on Friday evening at 6PM (7PM Irish time) when Gerry Ryan takes on the best that Europe has to offer over 10 kilometers of Czech roads.  We all know how brilliant Gerry is, but it won’t be easy to get a medal, even for him.  He’s at the top end of his age category and there…
