Clarinbridge NS win Christy Kennedy Sports 2025

The annual Christy Kennedy Sports day took place at Craughwell AC’s track earlier this month. It was the largest field to date, with 12 teams competing. Five teams took part in the large schools division; Craughwell, Clarinbridge, Carrabane, Adrahan and Kileeneen, with Clarinbridge NS coming out on top in a close fought battle for points. In the smaller schools division there were a few new entries, this is proving to be a very competitive group; Craughwell, Kileeneen, Ballymana, Kiltiernan, Kilchreest,…

5k series race report by Aideen Gillespie

5k series race report by Aideen Gillespie

I had been doing Dave and Toms Club interval sessions sporadically during the last few winters (which I highly recommend for all levels-Wednesday evenings 7.30) but three kids playing sports soon puts a stop to that in the spring. My Wednesday evenings meant I was a taxi driver now. For a few weeks I was doing intervals during my lunch break which is tough doing it solo. Luckily Jane Ann Meehan (@physioflex) was running group intervals on a Thursday morning…

5k Series Race Report by Maura Walsh

5k Series Race Report by Maura Walsh

One Wednesday evening in early March, David and Tom decided that we would start interval training for the 5K series, which at that stage wasn’t on my radar. However with each week, more people had entered and so after a few chats during the warm up sessions, I decided to commit and then encouraged a few more to do likewise! I ran 5 of the legs and really enjoyed the series, I felt a great sense of camaraderie and support…

Young Stars Excel at Connacht U9-13s

Young Stars Excel at Connacht U9-13s

Incredible performances from our younger athletes at the Connacht U9-13 Championships yesterday in Dangan. A torrential downpour during the event failed to dampen the spirits of the large contingent of Craughwell AC athletes and they put in many spectacular performances with Matiss Ozolins leading the way when breaking the Connacht Championship record with a 4.81m leap to take the U13 Long Jump title. Connacht titles also in the individual events for Katie Considine (U10 500m), Danny Mitchell (U12 Turbo Javelin)…

Legends of High Jump!

Legends of High Jump!

Conor Penney had the honour of meeting the great Javier Sotomayor, World High Jump Record Holder who set the record of 2.45m back in 1993, one of the longest standing world records in history. Sotomayor is the only person to have ever jumped higher than 8 foot – an incredible leap – and the fact that his record has stood for over 30 years shows how difficult that is. Conor was competing in a French Invitational International where he entered…

Summer Relay evening by Noel Gorman

Summer Relay evening by Noel Gorman

Last year we had an inaugural fun relay session prior to the Olympics with relays becoming a popular event interest for Ireland. It ran smoothly and we said we’d do it again. So this year we organised a few club members adults and juveniles and opened it also to a few guest runners from local clubs Athenry, Predator and Claregalway running groups. A very simple race format:  Divide the participants into as even as possible teams. With people’s hectic lives…

Strong guest performance at Mayo Outdoors

Strong guest performance at Mayo Outdoors

A small group of our senior athletes guested in the Mayo Track & Field Championships last weekend with Aisling Keady, Alisha Larkin, Arlene Earls, Leanagh Gilligan, Jade Moorhead and Sean Whelan all in action. The Senior Women’s long jump saw possibly the strongest ever performance from the club in the same long jump competition with both Alisha and Leanagh going well over the 5m mark and Aisling and Jade going close.
