Conor Penney’s success continued this week when the Olympic Council of Ireland confirmed his selection yesterday as part of the Irish team to compete in the European Youth Olympic Festival later in July in Macedonia. Conor’s selection is richly deserved having achieved the qualification standard of 2.06m during the indoor season and following this up last weekend with a brilliant 2.08m outdoors to win the National U20 High Jump title. Saturday saw the best Under-20 and Under-23 Athletes in the Country descend on Tullamore for their National Championships. Most of the events saw deep fields with returning NCAA stars competing with locally-based talent. Conor Penney was again the star of the show with a superb 2:08 clearance in the High-Jump to win Gold by a massive 28cm. Lauren Kilduff came 2nd in the U20 400m with a fine 1:01.09 with Emma O’Donovan agonizingly close to the podium in 4th 1:02.54….
