2:03:02 What a difference a wind makes
What a weekend for marathon spectators – first Emanuel Mutai smashes the London Marathon record on Sunday running an incredible 2:04:40. Then the following day somebody with the same surname Geoffrey Mutai runs an even more incredible 2:03:02 – almost a minute faster than Gebresalaisse's world record. Then news came in that the record wouldn't count because of the downhill nature of Bostona nd also a tailwind effect. My first reaction was "no way! Boston is one of the slowest big marathons". However there is a good article up here that is worth a read that convinces me that the wind had a significant effect.
