Cathriona Farrell added yet another National high jump title to her growing collection when winning the Universities Outdoor Track & Field title in Antrim on Friday.
In very windy conditions, Cathriona jumped cleanly over 1.66m to claim the title and retired at that point as the conditions were not beneficial to big jumps. This is Cathriona's 4th university title having won the indoor and outdoor title last year and the indoor title this year. Earlier in the day, Cathriona was unlucky in the long jump to break her first 2 jumps and then had to record a safe jump of 4.77m on her 3rd attempt which just missed out on making the final.
Another result of note last Friday was the time of 14.52.94 set by Sligo junior Alberto Sanchez when winning the 5000m ahead of Irish international and member of the European U23 gold-winning cross-country team John Coghlan. This was a big achievement for the up and coming Sligo athlete of whom I'm sure we will hear alot more in the future.
Well done also to Loughrea AC's Laura Shaughnessy who took the bronze in the women's 5000m in a time of 18.50.10.
