The club made a rare appearance at the Leinster Indoor Championships held in Athlone yesterday where Jade Moorhead took part in the Junior Women’s High Jump and Lorraine Delaney in the Senior Women’s 400m. Jade was on in the morning and entered the competition at her opening height of 1.55m when all but 2 of the competitors had exited. Our U11s training group descended on Athlone International Arena on Sunday for the inaugural ‘Craughwell Indoor Olympics’ on Sunday. The event was a team event with the athletes split into 3 evenly balanced teams and competing across 5 events – 60m, 400m, shot put, long jump and high jump with loads of fun and some great performances. A small but hugely talented group of athletes made the journey to Glasgow for the Scottish Indoors this weekend. The club first embarked on trips to the Scottish Indoors all the way back in 2008 and have gone most years since then missing only 3 years and the 2 pandemic years. Craughwell AC are over the moon with today’s announcement of a €120,000 Sports Capital Grant towards surfacing the club’s 400m track with an Olympic-standard tartan layer. A small group of athletes from the club returned to compete in Nenagh Olympic’s fine indoor facility at the weekend – the first time in a decade that we have competed down there. Most of our indoor competition moved to the indoor arena in Athlone after it was opened in late January 2013. As the Galway Indoors are on the weekend of 7/8th January and entries are due in by January 3rd, we need to have all participants registered for 2022 by then.
