Big Performances at National Multi-Events Championships

Craughwell AC had some magnificent performances at the National Multi-Events Championships in Tullamore last weekend.

On Saturday, Maria McNamara was in superb form in the U16 Girls Pentathlon where she claimed the silver medal with an impressive score of 2751 points across the five events – 1.50m high jump, 4.68m long jump, 13.96 80m hurdles, 6.63m shot putt and 2.46.64 800m. Sinead Gaffney also put in an excellent performance in the same age group where she finished in 4th place with 2443 points – 2.37.85 800m, 4.50m long jump, 1.29m high jump, 14.86 80m hurdles and 5.32m shot putt. Damien O’Boyle had 5 PBs in the U14 Boys Pentathlon where he finished in 9th place with 1962 points – 1.39m high jump, 4.31m long jump, 14.82 75m hurdles, 7.92 shot putt and 2.30.79 800m.

On Sunday, the Finnegan family led the way with siblings William, Sarah and Rachel all medalling. Sarah recorded 6 personal bests across the 7 events to take bronze in the Senior Women’s Heptathlon with a fine score of 3994 points – 16.82 100m hurdles, 28.15 200m, 1.46m high jump, 11.62m javelin, 4.91m long jump, 7.44m shot putt and 2.38.91 800m. Rachel and William went even better with double gold for the family in the U19 Girl’s Heptathlon and Senior Men’s Decathlon. Rachel scored 3760 points – 17.44 100m hurdles, 28.43 200m, 1.41 high jump, 11.92 javelin, 4.74m long jump, 5.82m shot putt and 2.37.05 800m, while William scored 4103 points – 12.17 100m, 6.00m long jump, 8.87m shot putt, 1.63m high jump, 56.92 400m, 19.08 110m hurdles, 18.14m discus, 2.20m pole vault, 30.77m javelin and 5.23.24 1500m.
