
Busy Bank Holiday in Tullamore and Ballinderrin
Craughwell U12 Girls 4x100m Relay Team
It was a busy June Bank Holiday weekend for the club with 3 days of action in Tullamore Saturday and Ballinderrin Sunday and Monday for the Galway Community Games.
Craughwell AC had a small band of its leading athletes in action at the Irish Schools Track & Field Championships in Tullamore where they were representing Calasantious Oranmore, the Pres Athenry, St Raphaels Loughrea and Loughrea VS.
Damian O’Boyle put in one of his finest performances on the track to date to take the silver medal in the Intermediate Boys 1500m Steeplechase in 4.37.75 while Jamie Fallon-Spellman claimed the bronze medal in a sprint finish in the Intermediate Boys 3000m in a time of 9.01.60. Both men are putting in huge efforts in athletics and these medals are just reward for 2 exceptional sportsmen.
There were fine displays also from Conor Duggan 6th in the Intermediate Boys 100m hurdles in 15.14; Sinead Treacy 7th in the Intermediate Girls 200m in 25.67 and 7th in the long jump with 5.09m; Tara McNally 7th in the Intermediate Girls 80m Hurdles with 13.15; Michelle Duggan 7th in the Junior Girls 100m in 13.44; John Cormican 6th in the Intermediate Boys 1500m in 4.20.60, just pipping Damian O’Boyle 7th in 4.21.10; Oisin Doyle 11th in the Junior Boys 1500m in 4.40.86, the Calasantious Oranmore Intermediate Boys 4×100 who placed 6th in 45.86 (featuring Aidan Conneely, John Cormican, Damien O’Boyle and Nicholas Sheehan) and the Pres Athenry Junior Girls 4×100 team who placed 7th in their final in 56.04 (featuring Michelle Duggan and Mary Dunphy).

Meanwhile a busy two days of athletics took place in Ballinderrin where the Galway Community Games finals were being held. With a large number of athletes in action both from Craughwell parish and surrounding parishes, Craughwell AC athletes enjoyed remarkable success.
Craughwell U15 Mixed 4x100m Relay Team – Galway Community Games Champions 2013
Representing Craughwell parish, Evan Moran took the Galway title in the U8 Boys 80m, Cian Waters did likewise with a big throw in the U14 Boys Shot Putt and the U15 4×100 mixed relay team took gold with Michelle Duggan, Mary Dunphy, Cian Waters and Dylan Finn. Finbarr McFadden claimed silver in the U12 Boys 600m as did Sarah Byrne in the U8 Girls 80m and Ciana Reidy in the U14 Girls Long Jump and Tammy Klynsmith in the U16 Girls High Jump with 1.35. The silverware continued to accumulate with bronze medals for Michelle Duggan in the U16 100m, Laura Cunningham in the U14 Girls 80m Hurdles, Padraig Martyn in the U10 Boys 200m and the U12 Girls 4x100m relay team (Leanagh Gilligan, Mia Waters, Aíne Kelly, Aoife Kelly and Eva Kelly). And a number of athletes ran very well to come through the heats and semis with Chloe Hallinan finishing 4th in the U12 Girls 80m, Amy Farrell 7th in the U8 Girls 60m, Rebecca Lynch 5th in the U10 Girls 60m Hurdles, Lauren Gilligan 4th in the U14 Girls Long Puck, Eva Kelly 4th in the U12 Girls Ball Throw and the U12 boys 6th in the 4x100m final (Darren Lyons, Finbarr McFadden, Kyle Moorhead, Shaun Gilligan).
There was plenty of success also for current and former members of the club representing other neighbouring parishes including Oranmore/Maree with Oisin Lyons 1st in the U14 Boys 800m, Caoimhe O’Donoghue 1st in the U14 Girls 100m, Verona Crowley 1st in the U12 Girls Ball Throw, Matthew McKiernan 2nd in the U16 Boys Triple Jump with 11.52; Mark O’Brien 3rd in the U14 Boys Shot Putt, Caoilfhinn O’Donoghue finalist in U12 Girls 100m; representing Clarinbridge Gavin Forde 2nd in the U14 Boys Long Jump with 4.02, Lorraine Delaney 4th in the U14 Girls 100m, Caoilin Milton 5th in the U14 Girls 100m; representing Ardrahan Aidan Conneely 1st in the U16 Boys 100m and Dearbhaile Walshe 4th in the U14 Girls 800m; representing Athenry Oisin Doyle 1st in the U16 Boys 1500m; representing Carrabane Sineád Treacy 2nd in the U16 Girls 100m and Cathal Bryan 1st in the U14 Boys Long Puck.
