The senior outdoor track and field season is almost upon us and the club is preparing to contest its second National Track & Field League this year, fielding a men's team for the 2nd year in a row.
Following a successful debut last year, team manager Peter O'Sullivan has issued a rallying call to all male athletes in the club from under 17 to over 90 to don the club's colours for this year's event and help Craughwell AC to establish itself as one of the leading senior clubs in the country.
The competition provides for the full range of athletics events from sprints to middle-distance to jumps and throws, so there is something for everyone. And its not as daunting as it sounds as last year many athletes from the club were pleasantly surprised with how well they performed in competitive track and field.
It also provides a good opportunity for athletes from the older juvenile ranks to take part in senior competition and hopefully help transition from being a strong juvenile athlete into a strong senior athlete.
There are a number of useful preparatory track and field events coming up with the Clare Open Track & Field being held on Thursday 19th May, 2nd June and 9th June, and the Galway Senior Track & Field Championships expected to be scheduled on 3 Thursdays in June.
The dates of the National League itself are Sunday 12 June, Sunday 17 July and Saturday 20 August. So come on, give it a shot – contact team manager Peter O'Sulliivan to indicate your interest. Members of the juvenile club can let Michael Tobin or Peter know if they are interested in being part of the team.
