The Connacht Uneven ages Cross Country took place on Sunday morning in Ballinrobe Racecourse. The weather was bright and the footing good as the finest Athletes from the West competed over various distances on the fast flat course. Saturday May the 10th and our fabulous group of u15-17 athletes took to the track. Our group continues to grow which is testament to our inclusive, fun first, competition second strategy. We have over 45 members in our age group and this continues to grow. Maybe 20% compete the other 80% come to get fit, push themselves and have fun. Mathys wins 100th 5km Series as Tony is last man Standing!

The emphasis of the 5km series is participation and fun, but Mathys Bocquet showed that running fast can be fun too with a superb 15:36 clocking, one of the fastest times ever posted on the rolling course (only bettered by Gerry Ryan’s 15:34 in 2009). Fine Performances At Northwest Games

The annual Northwest Games took place in Athlone International Arena at the weekend with some fine performance from the small contingent of Craughwell AC athletes taking part. Cormac Kearney took gold in the masters M35 60m sprint in 8.07s with Sean Whelan taking bronze in 8.15. The Athletics Ireland domestic Cross Country season ended on Sunday in Tramore, Co. Waterford at the National Uneven Ages and Novices Cross Country finals. The course in Tramore Racecourse was quite a tough one – most of the footing was fair, but the oblong loop was downhill on one side and uphill on the other, making it very easy for athletes to misjudge their pace.
