Lorraine and Jade star at Leinster Indoors

The club made a rare appearance at the Leinster Indoor Championships held in Athlone yesterday where Jade Moorhead took part in the Junior Women’s High Jump and Lorraine Delaney in the Senior Women’s 400m. Jade was on in the morning and entered the competition at her opening height of 1.55m when all but 2 of the competitors had exited. Jumping cleanly over 1.55m and 1.58m, there were just 2 competitors left when the bar reached 1.61m. Jade was unlucky to…

U17-Seniors Kick off Galway Indoors in Style

Hot off the back of the fantastic Sports Capital Grant announcements for Craughwell, Athenry and Tuam there was a fantastic atmosphere in TUS (aka AIT) Indoor arena on Friday night, particularly among the officials, many of who’s clubs saw support for their development plans. Connacht PRO Pierce O’Callaghan did a great job on the mike and new CPB performances were set. Holding the older ages separate to the Juvenile seems to have been a great move. Sprinters! Lorraine Delaney won…

€120,000 Sports Capital Grant Announced!

Craughwell AC are over the moon with today’s announcement of a €120,000 Sports Capital Grant towards surfacing the club’s 400m track with an Olympic-standard tartan layer. With so many people working so hard within the club on coaching and committees and freely giving of their time to 100s of children and adults, it’s so encouraging to get such a huge injection of funding for our facilities. As everyone will already know, the drive for the 400m track was spearheaded by…

Thank You Andy, TJ and Jane-Ann

Thank You Andy, TJ and Jane-Ann

A big thank you to Andy Talbot and TJ Beatty and Jane-Ann Meehan for putting down the accurate markings on our 400m tarmacadem track today. Its now marked from the start line and every 100m and also a line at every 50m so it will be real handy for athletes running reps. Andy and TJ are both official AAI/IAAF track measurers and the task required a lot of steel tapes and a lot of time. It was super to get…

Brilliant Results in Baltic Connacht Schools XC

Brilliant Results in Baltic Connacht Schools XC

It was definitely a case of “four seasons in one day” as the cream of North and South Connacht distance running collided today in Bushfield for the magical goal of a top-15 qualification ticket to the All-Ireland in Belfast. After the heavy rain of the last few days, the course was coated with pretty deep mud for a lot of the loop, and the weather was intermittently cold and sunny and freezing and stormy. There were some outstanding runs from…

Great fun in South Connacht Schools XC

Great fun in South Connacht Schools XC

A very short report in on a super two day’s Cross Country during the week. A change this year was to have the girls on Wed and the Boys on Thursday and I think it worked out quite well with timing, etc. My lunch break meant I missed the earlier races but there were some fantastic results from Craughwell AC athletes for their schools, including almost a clean sweep of victories in the lads races! (I haven’t had the chance…

Fantastic Performances at National Multi-Events!

The club had a large contingent of athletes in action yesterday with some wonderful performances at the National Indoor Combined Events Championships in Athlone IT. A long day which kicked off the with U15 girls and boys high jump at 10am in the morning concluded just after 7pm in the evening with the youth women’s 800m. But despite the long day, from a coach’s perspective it was wonderful to have a competition without the pandemic restrictions of everyone staying in…
