Cathriona Farrell seals senior debut with National victory

In her first competitive fixture in a senior grade (athletes are allowed compete in senior events once they reach the U17 grade), Cathriona Farrell claimed the top spot in the high jump at the National AAI Indoor Games in Nenagh on Sunday last, beating Rosemary Daniels from Co. Meath who is in 14th place on the all-time list of top Irish female high jumpers.

Cathriona jumped brilliantly from 1.50m up to 1.68m (with just 1 knocked bar at 1.65m), before leaping 1.71m on her second attempt. She came exceptionally close to 1.74m and it is only a matter of time before Cathriona hits new heights again beyond her PB of 1.72m from last year.

Sarah Finnegan took third place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.77 at the same event and also got a PB in the triple jump with 9.27m to finish in 6th place. Sarah rounded her day off with a 7th place finish in the long jump with 4.48m followed by younger sister Rachel in 8th place with 4.32m.

Craughwell’s involvement in the Indoor Games was completed by Maeve Curley in the 3000m Walk, where she set a new PB for the distance of 17.06.87.

Well done to all!
