Cathriona Farrell stars on Irish National team
Congratulations to Cathriona Farrell who today competed on her first National sqaud when representing Ireland in the Celtic Games competition in Waterford.
Widely touted by the AAI as a stepping stone to international senior athletics, the Celtic Games is an annual event between Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. According to the AAI Web site, two-thirds of the Irish athletes in action this week in the European Championships in Gotenburg all took part in the Celtic Games in their youth.
Cathriona jumped a fantastic 1.64m to tie with the Scottish athlete at that height but having to settle for the silver medal on countback – as the Scottish athlete had less attempts at earlier height. Cathriona's performance is particularly impressive because she has another year in the same age category in that event. Well done Cathriona!
