Ciaran and Shauna turn the first sod!

Construction work has started on Craughwell AC’s 400m track development. A low key sod-turning ceremony was held last weekend due to the COVID restrictions and it was fitting that the honours were performed by Ciaran Cannon and Shauna Bocquet. Shauna and her dad Loic spearheaded a fund-raising campaign for the 400m track last autumn raising over €49000 in the process for the track, with Ciaran contributing over €7000 of that in a charity cycle.  Ciaran has also been instrumental in advising the club on many successful grant applications towards its facility development in the past few years.

The construction to tarmacadam level will be done by local contractor Seamus Coleman / Coleman Plan & Civil Ltd and commenced on Monday 17th May.

There will be some disruption to the facilities available for use during construction. Access to the in-field of the 400m track is completely restricted for the duration of the works while access to the high jump area is only permitted under coach supervision.

The use of the 800m gravel walkway will also be restricted for a number of weeks early in the construction phase – users are asked to respect the signs/barriers preventing access and to only use the open part of the walkway for the short few weeks that restrictions are in place.
