Conor Duggan Powers to Victory at Galway Community Games

 
Craughwell U14 Girls 4x100m, Galway Community Games Champions 2012

Large numbers of Craughwell AC athletes competed in the Galway Community Games finals at the weekend while representing the Craughwell and surrounding parishes. Highlights of the weekend for the Craughwell area were Conor Duggan’s breathtaking victory in the U16 boys 100m and the performance of the U14 girls’ 4x100m relay to take gold with their team of Katie Stephens, Erin Fitzpatrick, Mary Dunphy, Aisling Keady-Cummins, Leanne Freaney and Emma Gaffney.

The U16 boys relay team placed 3rd with Christopher McDonnell, Conor O’Donoghue, Jamie Spellman, Conor Duggan and Keelan Ryan while the U13 mixed relay team were unlucky to finish just outside the medals in 4th place with Aoife Raftery, Dylan Finn, Aoife Walsh, Cian Waters and Laura Cunningham.

Ellen Fitzpatrick took silver in the U16 high jump, while Aisling Keady-Cummins took gold in the U14 long jump with 4.47m. In the same long jump, Laura Cunningham came within 3cm of a medal when jumping 3.97m to finish 4th with Aoife Walsh hot on her heels with 3.93m to take 5th. Anna Farrelly took 4th place in the U12 ball throw, with Shauna Tobin in 5th place. Dylan Finn placed 5th in the U14 100m while Nicky Cahill took bronze in the U14 long puck just outscoring Leanne Freaney in 4th place.

Cian Waters took the bronze medal in the U14 hurdles while Eva Finn did likewise in the U10 hurdles and Pádraig Martyn finished 4th in the U10 boys hurdles. Aíne Kelly took 4th place in the U10 200m while Siona Lawless and Lukas Schukat both made it to the finals of the U12 and U8 sprints, as did Finbar McFadden in the U12 600m. The U12 girls relay team placed 5th in their relay final (Anna Farrelly, Mia Waters, Sarah Callanan, Siona Lawless, Shauna Tobin,  Sarah Phillips) while the U12 boys placed 6th in the final (Calum Kenny, Finbar McFadden, Darragh O’Connor, Micheál McFadden, Darren Lyons). The U10 mixed relay team were unlucky not to make the final with their team of Aoife Kelly, Ava Finn, Kate Reilly, Shaun Gilligan and Padraig Martyn.

There were also some top-notch performances from other athletes from the club including Oisin Doyle (Athenry) who raced to victory in the U14 boys 800m, Dearbhaile Walshe (Ardrahan) 2nd in the U14 girls 800m, Nathan Lynskey (Ballinderrin), 1st in the U14 long jump with 4.23m and Jerry Keary (Carrabane) 5th with 4.03m, Mark O’Brien (Oranmore) 1st in the U14 shot putt, Sineád Treacy (Carrabane) and Tara McNally (Kilnadeemna) 2nd and 3rd in the U16 100m, Nicholas Sheehan and John Cormican (both Oranmore) 2nd and 3rd in the U16 500m, Damien O’Boyle (Clarinbridge) 1st in the U16 high jump.
