Congrats Conor Penney who was presented with the Athletics Ireland Juvenile Star Award for 2022 at the Connacht Championships today.
The Star Awards are presented to one athlete from each county each year in recognition of the most individual medals won by each athlete at National Juvenile Championships.
Conor’s fantastic achievements in 2022 included winning 4 National titles in the indoor and outdoor sprint hurdles and in the indoor and outdoor high jump, as well as bronze in the outdoor 250m hurdles.
As one can imagine to be the most successful juvenile athlete from Co. Galway across all events male or female is a very rare achievement as evidenced by the fact that only 3 athletes from the club have won it in the past – Cathriona Farrell winning it in 2008, Sinead Treacy in 2015 and Laura Cunningham in 2018.
Well done Conor, a fantastic achievement!
