Cotter leads Craughwell to Team Victory
Over 2,500 runners from all over Ireland turned out in exceptional weather on Saturday evening to contest the Streets of Galway 8km road race. Standards were sky-high as usual and the atmosphere was buzzing. It is hard to filter the results by club so the report just includes the top few but there were great performances and pbs all through the field – check out the results here.
Sean Cotter led a youthful Craughwell men’s team to team victory with an outstanding 4th place finish in 24:41 ahead of strong Ennis Track and GCH teams. I think this might be our first win in the event, Ennis usually beat us!. Sean worked his way through the field and caught several with an exceptional 2:50 last kilometre which took him within 5s of last years winner and 2021 eurocross medallist Donie Devane in 3rd. Sean’s time smashes the club Junior 8km record held by Damian O’Boyle.
The Senior club record for the event is still held by the legendary Gerry Ryan at 24:24, but it looks like someone may challenge this over the next few years!.

Jamie Fallon finished next in 6th in 24:52 having been in 3rd or 4th until the last 400m, but he just ran out of steam. Jamie is just back from a break and this race was a shock to the system! Next home for Craughwell was Patrick Noonan 8th in 25:32. Kyle Moorhead rounded out our winning team in 13th with an excellent 26:24.
Emily Miskella showed that the future is bright as she won first Junior female while Ross McGuinness did likewise and took home first Junior male, in a great time of 27:09.
Jack Miskella was well up there with Kyle and Paddy until a foot niggle forced him to slow down about 3km in. He still slipped under the 28 minutes in a solid outing, as did club legend Kevin Mooney who was just behind Ross in 27:22. Thanks to John O’Connor for some of these early pictures and keep an eye out on 77 eden hill to see more arrive!
