Craughwell 10

Craughwell 10

Welcome to the C10 – Craughwell 10-Mile and 10-Km road races which take place on a new date of Sept 3rd, 2023. This is one of Galway’s favourite races!

10 mile race starts @ 10:30 am
10km race starts @ 10:45 am

This race was established in 2010 heavily inspired by our beloved and sadly-missed Ballycotton 10. On a rural course that is fair and flat by West of Ireland standards men and women of all ages and abilities battle it out to see who can make it to the famous scones as quickly as possible! In 2019, we added a 10k option for those of the metric persuasion!

The C10 Summer Challenge isn’t just a race – it’s a festival of fitness! Our event offers a dual race format (10km or 10 mile) catering to different fitness levels and running preferences.

The event is AAI Certified and Chip Timed. The finish line isn’t the end but the beginning of more fun! Refuel and refresh with post-race food and beverages + bask in the camaraderie of fellow runners at St Michael’s community hall (Race HQ). You also get a beautiful finisher’s medal and other secret swag.

Don’t miss out – enter today!

The Record Holders!

Though both the records were set on the old route, the new route has less elevation if anything so the records haven’t been reset. At time of writing, the fastest on the new course are Kevin Mooney 55:17 and Laura Shaughnessy 57:59.

Mick Clohisey and Pauline Curley each have the title of triple champions!

Laura Shaughnessy won the race outright in 2017 beating all the men and women – a rare occurrence in athletics and a moment to be celebrated!

The talented John O’Connor, himself a Craughwell resident and fine athlete with a 51 minute 10-miler to his credit – is the archivist for much of Galway Athletic History. The Craughwell 10 is no exception – enjoy the links to his exceptional albums from the different years below! Thank you John for all you do!

A selection of iconic Craughwell 10 moments are captured below!

Video of the first race, an unforgettable day!

Route

The course changed in 2017 due to the motorway construction and a collapsed bridge, however we liked the new route so much that we are sticking with it!.
