The performances of the local schools continued a strong tradition in this event, with Oranmore Boys NS making in 3-in-a-row in both the senior boys and junior boys race, Craughwell NS taking 3 sets of team medals for the 5th time in the last 6 years, Ballymana NS taking 2 sets of team medals and Clarinbridge replicating last years senior boys silver medal performance. It was a remarkable performance by any standard.

And it’s not just about winning. For many more of the competitors, participating in and completing this race was a big achievement. The club had a huge turnout in the races, with almost 60 children from Craughwell NS along taking part and many more from the other local schools. It was great to see athletes such as Eoghan O’Kelly complete the race, finishing in a very respectable position and showing that the last 4 weeks of training really paid off.

The teams and individuals who medalled now look forward to the Connacht finals which will be held in Dangan on October 15th. Hopes will be high of a good performance although nothing comes easy at Connacht level with many fine teams in the other counties challenging for honours also.

Pictured below are participants and medallists from Craughwell NS.
