The club was one of 25 on this island selected for the award, from an entry of 422 clubs. The club applied for the funding to improve the track and field facilities as the astroturf facility at Craughwell NS, in which the club is a one-third stakeholder.
It was a big achivement for the club to be selected for this award and is testamount to the hard work been done by athletes, coaches and parents at all ages within the club.
Well done everyone!
An interesting sidenote is that at the awards ceremony, we seemed to be quite well-known. I was chatting to the Chairman of Mervue United and he proudly informed me that his daughter Karen had just completed her first marathon on Monday last in Dublin and is a member of Craughwell AC. His daughter is of course Karen Guest … well done Karen!
And Phillip from Navan O'Mahony's Football Club had heard all about our club and our super jumpers and runners via Maria Gaffney who is a close friend of his wife!
We now have a lovely plaque commerating the award, so our next task is to build an indoor training facility where we can mount this plaque and many more like it together with photos of our many champions in the years to come!
