Craughwell AC’s Young Guns Excel in Tullamore

Craughwell AC’s youngest competitors took to the track in Tullamore at day 1 of the All-Irelands with many super performances, none more so that Aaron Burke who took a fantastic silver medal in the U12 boys shot putt with a massive throw of 9.69 on his 2nd effort. Our U12 throwers were in amazing form with Gerard Murray claiming bronze in the turbo javelin with a fine throw of 28.55 with Aaron Burke close behind in 4th place with a throw of 27.18. Conor Mannion leaped 1.25m for 9th place in the U12 Boys high jump with Aoife O’Connell clearing 1.10m for 19th place in the U12 Girls high jump. The U12 Boys relay team of Matthew Drysdale, Conor Mannion, Jack Hibbitt and Taylor Flood put in a strong performance to place 4th in their heat in 58.01 and 11th overall while the U12 girls relay team of Muireann Kelly, Roisin Melia and Abbey and Lily Clesham also had a fine run in their heat in a time of 61.77.

The U11 Boys relay team also had a fine run with Eoin Geraghty, Tom Clarke, Con Clesham and Luke Quinn raced to 3rd place in their heat in 60.7 and 7th overall – only 0.5 of a second behind the bronze medalists. The U11s boys had a super set of jumps in the long jump with Oran Gillespie 6th with 3.83, Danny Kieran 7th with 3.80, Con Clesham 20th with 3.48 and Luke Quinn 24th with 3.36, while in the U11 Girls 600m, Ciara Ward and Leah O’Toole had fine runs to place 6th and 13th in their heat in times of 2:00.93 and 2:05.85. In the U11 turbo javelin, Danny Mitchell and Harry Byrne had big performances to place 14th and 16th with throws of 18.53 and 18.02.

The U9s girls pairing of Katie Considine and Lucy McGovern raced to a fantastic bronze medal in the paired 300m in a combined time of 113.27 with Katie also posting the fastest time of the day in 52.59 The U9 girls relay team also did superbly to place 6th in their heat in a time of 73.50 with Katie Considine, Fiadh O’Connor-Mullet, Lucy McGovern and Cara Murray. While the turbo javelin, there were good performances from Esme Keenan and Cara Murray with throws of 6.87m and 6.20m and in the boys event from Cormac Finnerty and Oisin Murray with throws of 11.11 and 8.03.
