Craughwell Juveniles represent Connacht at Tailteann Games

A number of Craughwell AC’s top juvenile athletes were in action at the weekend in Santry where they were part of the Connacht team to contest the annual inter-provincial Tailteann Games, including Cathriona Farrell and Tomás Keehan in the high jump, Maeve Curley in the race walk and Kelly O’Donoghue in the javelin.

In the 3000m race walk, Maeve took 4th place in a time of 16.05.12. In the high jump, Cathriona won the National title at her ease despite poor weather conditions, joining the competition at 1.50m and makng first time clearances of 1.50, 1.55, 1.60, 1.63 and 1.66 to claim the gold medal, retiring from the competition at that height to preserve energy for the following day.

She was in action again on the following day in Tullamore in the National U20 Championships, competing against athletes 3 years older where she won the silver medal with a big leap of 1.70m and went agonisingly close to clearing 1.75m on her first attempt.

Next action for Craughwell AC juveniles is the National Championships for U13-19 which are held over the next 2 weekends in Antrim and Tullamore. The club have a smaller than normal contingent travelling due to the distance involved, some athletes in the Gaeltacht and some on holidays.
