Craughwell paint the streets green

Craughwell paint the streets green

In sublime conditions we had an amazing turnout of 49 Craughwell athletes taking part in Galway's premier road race.  Well done to each and every one of you that took part.  PB's about all over the field as the wind at your backs on the prom made the traditionally tricky home straight a dream.

Full results are here.  Little needs to be said about the winner of the race here as it's been covered elsewhere – it was an awesome run by the Kenyan Boit who came home in a record-equalling time of 22:49 over half a kilometer clear of Gerry.  His chip time was 22:48 – so close, but as far as I know no bonus for equalling the record.  It also makes you think just how good Seamus Power was to set such a fantastic time.

First home for Craughwell was the evergreen Martin Corcoran in a very impressive time of 26:54 to win the M45 category.  This is not quite a PB for Martin but it is in the right ballpark.  I am in awe of the way he has kept such amazing form over the years.  This year he says his secret is that he has eased off in his training and is training easy but racing regularly – it certainly seems to be paying off.  All in all we had 5 Craughwell runners under the 30 minutes which is the best ever showing from the club in this race – and this is in a year when we have been hit very hard with injury – the club is in a very healthy state.

I took some pictures at 7k which can be found on Racepix365.   I was standing in a place more suited to cheering people than pictures and unfortunately for a lot of the Craughwell people I got a bit excited and cheered when I should have been taking photographs!  Well done all of you!
