Another season draws to a close and what a year 2014 has been for our under 10’s boys and girls.

Our journey started back in May whereby we competed in Regional County finals in Dangan. All our athletes did exceptionally well in all their individual events.

We continued onto the Connaught finals that were held in Sligo earlier this month. Even though it turned out a blistering hot day the athletes showed great enthusiasm and courage in their events. On the day Craughwell AC under 10’s came away with gold’s, silvers and bronze medals.

Our journey ended on Saturday at the All Ireland finals in Tullamore. Again a very hot day but the athletes showed great commitment and enthusiasm in their individual events.

The day started off with our Turbo Boys/Girls who showed such determination. Millie Gearaghty, Aoibhe Farragher, Saidbh Irwin and Megan Gillian were up first and they all did mighty with some achieving PB. Cormac Connelly and Aarran Flynn represented us in the boys and they too did great. Well done to you all.

Up next was the Long Jump first up was the girls. Sarah Byrne and Josie Fallon who did exceptionally well but unfortunately were not in the medal position. Both girls can be very proud of themselves. Evan Hallinan and Cian Lavan did a fantastic job in their long jump and took home the bronze. Cian did a PB on the day a great achievement for both boys. Well done to all of you

Next up was the 500m and our girls Jade Moorhead and Aoibhe Carr took to the track. Jade ran in the first heat and did a great race while Aoibhe was in the second heat and even through she had a injury she showed such courage and strength to finish her race I am proud of you both. We’ll get it next year!! Our boys were up next Luke Flynn was in heat 1 and he ran a great race as did Evan Hallinan who had a great finish in the end. Well done to you both.

Finally it was time for the 4 x 100m relay. Up first were our girls Erin Kelly (sub), Josie Fallon, Hannah Jennings and Sarah Bynre (Aoibhe Carr had to pull out because of an injury she picked up in the 500m). Sadly our girls missed out this year but I know we’ll come back stronger and better next year. Well done to you all.

Next up were our boys Evan Hallinan, Mark Walsh, Fichra Bond, Cian Lavan and Ryan McDonnell (sub) who got through to the final and ran a fantastic race to come 5th overall this was a great achievement for them. Well done lads!!

To get through to an All Ireland doesn’t come about every day and the boys and girls in the under 10 did fantastic. It’s a great reward for all the hard work and training that you all put in during the season. I thank you all for that.

As this was my first year as Co-Coordinator I have to admit it was daunting at first but I thoroughly enjoyed coaching and mentoring these fabulous athletes who I have become very fond of. We have been through our ups and downs but we always came out on top.

I personally want to thank all my team of coaches/helpers who gave up their time to come down to the track every Thursday evening. A special thank you goes to Helen Hallinan who has been my right hand woman and has put up with me through the whole season. To the other co-ordinators you know who you are who were so good at guiding and advising me throughout the year I thank you too.

Last but not least a very BIG THANK YOU to all my under 10 boys and girls I want to wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable summer and I look forward to seeing you all back fit and healthy in September.

N.B. As our numbers are growing every year we are always looking for extra help and commitment from parents. If you are interested in helping out please contact Mike Tobin (at 087 6591879) or I on 0858404509.
