Excellent Performances on Day 2 of Connacht Track & Field

Neil Greaney and Paul Joyce who took bronze and silver in the U18 1500m
at the Connacht Track & Field Championships

The second day of the Connacht Track & Field Championships was held at the weekend in Dangan with another strong performance from Craughwell AC athletes. There were many fine performances across all of the disciplines.
In the middle distance races, Nicholas Sheehan ran a blistering 2.05 to win the U17 800m while Finn Stoneman made a welcome return to form with a 2.09 in the U18 800m. There was a big battle at the end of the U18 1500m with Paul Joyce just pipping Neil Greaney on the line to take silver. Conor Duggan and Tara McNally had the fastest 100m sprint times of the day from the club with Conor running 12.12 and Tara 12.86.

The U13 boys age group demonstrated a show of strength with a 1-2-3 in the hurdles and in the high jump, victories in the relay, the shot putt and javelin, 2 and 3 in the long jump and 2nd in the sprint – the highlight being Sean Delaney’s 1.48m to win the high jump. In the long jumps, the club were particularly strong with medals across all age groups and gold in many of them, the most impressive being the U14 boys performance with 3 in the top 4 and Aisling Keady-Cummins fine 4.73m to win the U14 girls long jump. With the relays at the end of a long day, the club had only 2 teams in action with the U13 boys winning by a convincing margin (Cian Waters, Micheál McFadden, Sean Delaney, Daniel Callanan-Forde) and the U16 girls taking silver (Ellen Fitzpatrick, Caoimhe Reidy, Sineád Treacy, Tara McNally).
