Facility Progress Gathers Pace!!
Work is proceeding at pace on the club’s fine new facilities in Crinnage with the construction of an international standard sprint straight 8 lanes wide and 140m long with a 9m long jump pit at the end.
Work is expected to be completed mid-September just in time for what the club hope will be a major family event with the inaugural Family 5k and children’s colour run on Saturday September 17th.
The 5k commences at the school and runs the Grenage loop while the colour run takes place on the club’s new grass running routes. The club are appealing to individuals and families to take part in the 5k either walking or jogging it to raise much needed funds for the facility development.
Every cent raised is ploughed back into the facility. The club is pleased also to welcome on board the sponsors for the event with the Family 5k being sponsored by software development company Xyea and the Children’s Colour Run being sponsored by Yeats College.
The event will be accompanied by athletics fun and games for younger children while parents and older siblings run the 5k race. There are prizes for the fastest individuals in the 5k race and for the fastest families with the cumulative times of 3 members of the same family counting in the 5k.
So please get on board and take part in our event on September 17th. You can sign up here:- https://www.craughwellac.com/site/index.php/5k.
There are other ways to support us too by joining our Lotto or by making a direct donation to our facility. Details for signing up to our lotto are at https://www.craughwellac.com/site/index.php/lotto.
An added incentive for signing up to the Lotto is that you get annual membership of our Sports and Recreation Park as part of the deal. Membership works out at €1 a week – excellent value for use of a facility which is lit up to 11pm each night, where you can park your car safely and go for a walk or run on nice grass routes and in time, on a gravel route around the perimeter.
Please please support us by taking part in the 5k and colour run or supporting the lotto. Facilities like what we are building do not come cheap. Our total spend on the sprint lanes, lights, long jump area, high jump area and carpark/roadway comes to very close to €200,000. We got a grant of €100k but the other €100k has to come from loans and fund-raising. We are building one of the finest community facilities in the country so it is very worthy of your financial support.
The pictures below show how the development of the sprint lanes have been progressing this past few weeks.
