Another fantastic weekend of athletics took place in Tullamore at the weekend with the first 2 days of the National Juvenile Track & Field Championships. The inclement weather conditions were blown away by the incredible performance of the U18 Girls relay team to take the National title in their 4x100m in a new club record time of 51.49. The team of Caoilin Milton, Aisling Keady, Laura Cunningham, Michelle Duggan and sub Lorraine Delaney put in a magnificent run to take the victory on the line from local rivals GCH. Having placed 4th in the National Indoors finals behind GCH, it was a sweet victory for the girls and comes after years of dedication to training and near misses in relay finals – a just reward for an exceptional group of girls. To say the club is proud of the girls achievement is an understatement. All have been in the club since the age of 7 or 8 years old, all have trained hard in the intervening years – some years with success some years without success. They never gave up, they continued to train well every year (not all of the time, but most of the time!) and their National title and club record is a very well earned reward for the girls and an inspiration to other members of the club. Well done girls!

Lorraine Delaney and Aoife Walsh came agonisingly close to the podium in the U17 Girls Long Jump with Lorraine leaping to 4th with a best of 4.94m and Aoife 5th with 4.87m. While in the National B Championships, Jade Moorhead claimed a fine silver medal in the U12 High Jump with a clearance of 1.19m.

Erin Kelly leaped 3.48m to place 16th in a field of over 30 athletes in the U12 long jump.

The rest of the Craughwell relay teams who were in action put in tremendous performances in their heats but did not make it to the finals on this occasion,. They should take heart however from the performance of the U18 girls who contested the National finals on many occasions, sometimes making it out of the heats and sometimes not – but this year claiming the ultimate prize with the National title. Remaining relay results were as follows: U15 girls 6th in their 4x100m heat in a time of 54.25 just 0.23 away from making the final (Aine Kelly, Ava Finn, Chloe Casey, Freya Bohan); U14 girls 5th in their 4x100m heat in a time of 56.93 (Aine Kelly, Aoife Kelly, Ava Finn, Ciara Hughes, Ellie Cronin, Emma Jane Moran), U14 boys 6th in the heats of the 4x100m in a time of 55.16 (Padraig Martyn, Pascal Walsh, Robert Urquhart, Shaun Gilligan); U13 girls 8th in their 4x100m heat in a time of 60.71 (Emily Miskella, Eve Ayo, Hannah Hynes, Rebecca Lynch); U12 girls 5th in their 4x100m heat in a time of 63.00 (Erin Kelly, Jade Moorhead, jade Whelton, Katie Scully),
