Fantastic Weekend For Craughwell AC
There were some outstanding performances from Craughwell AC athletes at the weekend taking home 2 gold and 4 silver from the National Juvenile Indoor Track and Field in Nenagh and taking 3rd place in the prestigious Connemara Half-Marathon on Sunday.
Mark Davis, Tony Nevin and Tony Fitzpatrick were the club’s representatives in the half-marathon and Mark ran a stormer to take 3rd place in a time of 1:22 in very difficult weather conditions.
In Nenagh, Saturday’s competition saw Paul McGill throw a National Record of 11 metres to become the U13 Boys Shot Putt Chanpion. Well done Paul, a fantastic performance. Cathriona Farrell put in a great performance despite suffering from the flu, to take the silver medal in the U15 Girls High Jump with a jump of 1.59m. Cathriona had to rely on plenty of mental toughness to make the return journey on Sunday to take silver medal in the long jump with a distance of 5.05m. Sunday was a great day for our U12 high jumpers with Jack Raftery claiming gold in the boys event with a jump of 1.30m and Siobhan Gardiner taking silver in the girls event with a jump of 1.27m. The day was completed with a silver medal by Sarah Finnegan in the 60m hurdles in a time of 11.16.
There were many other fine performances with 3 sprinters making the sprint finals, 3 hurdlers making the hurdles finals, 2 more high jumpers making the top five. It was the club’s most successful weekend ever at National level.
Well done everyone! A more detailed report will follow later in the week.
